Highly Experienced Elementary and Essay Writing Tutor

Over the course of my high school and college experience, my essay writing skills have excelled to the point where I receive an A on every essay I write. In high school, I took 8 AP classes; for the AP Lit Exam, I scored a 5, and for the AP Lang Exam, I scored a 4. Both of these scores were due to my improvement and skill with writing timed essays analyzing the literary devices and themes in short and long pieces of literature. In college, I have written essays on a wide variety of topics ranging from analyzing the effects of prescribed drugs on college students, to outlining the history of maternity homes, to analyzing political song lyrics and using it as evidence for why voting is incredibly important in the modern age. I received As on all of these essays and more due to my proficiency in academic essay writing. Additionally, my journalism classes have helped me gain great experience in learning how to write narrative essays and stories. These skills have greatly improved my writing abilities and would allow me to help any student coming to me with questions on how to improve their essay writing abilities. I have one year of tutoring experience helping middle and high schoolers improve their academic abilities in english and essay writing. My lesson plans usually involve practice questions about analyzing a piece of text or a timed writing exercise. After either activity, I like to go through the work slowly to show the student what they did well and what they could improve on before walking them through a similar activity and helping them improve their academic skills. I am very flexible with my lesson plans and can easily switch it up based on the subject and needs of the student.

College Essay Writing and Criminal Justice Tutor

While essay writing is something that I do regularly for my work, I find that I enjoy the process and I have found additional joy in helping students build their skills as writers. It is a skill that provides benefits even outside of classroom settings as it helps us all communicate better with one another. My experience with essay writing in a professional capacity has most recently taken the form of numerous academic research essays. I have been working on my Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Studies for the past four years and I have written multiple research proposals and research studies during that period. Prior to my time in an academic setting, I worked in a municipal government position that saw me writing incident reports regularly. This helped me build experience in both condensing information in a professional and understandable way, but also honed my skills at writing effectively under a deadline. In addition to my professional writing experience, I have also spent the last two years tutoring students to better prepare themselves for the expectations of essay writing in college courses. I have experience both in my own classroom with students of my own, as well as students who seek out my assistance in general essay writing tutoring. Because of this dual-experience, I have an understanding of both what instructors generally look for pertaining to academic writing standards and what strategies help students in crafting effective essays. All of which makes me confident in both my abilities as an essay writing tutor, but also in how I can assist you in becoming the best writer that you can be.

Reading/Writing Tutor with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing

I am Abigale, a millennial living in Brooklyn, New York. I currently work as a reading/writing tutor for adult learners studying for GED exams and College Prep. I recently graduated from the New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing. I graduated with honors and was awarded the status of Cum Laude for all of my efforts. I have also received Dean's List Honor five times. I have been writing for many years, and it has allowed me to learn new and interesting things about myself. I have learned that as long as I have dreams, I can write them down, and discover ways to make them come to fruition. Whether it’s by learning how to express myself more, or pursuing a thought, I am always in the process of learning about myself through writing. Since the art of writing and expression can be subjective, I have learned about condensing and compacting information so that it’s easily accessible to large and diverse groups of people. As a writer, my imagination tends to run wild, so I have adapted to creating content within the confines of the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) federal guidelines. These guidelines have allowed me to be expressive and professional while ensuring that my audience understands the information being provided. I truly enjoy writing, and based on my accomplishments, I guess you can assume that I am good at what I do. I have written numerous pieces such as research papers, executive summaries, proposals, feasibility reports, manuals, and more. I am here to help and a session with me will allow you to learn so much about various writing styles and how to format papers for the best outcome. I will take my time to work with you and move at your pace. I will answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. I assure you, you will become a better writer if you take the time and put in the effort during our sessions. I look forward to working with you!

Nina DeMilta

College Access Mentor, Writing Tutor, and Religious Studies Tutor

Hello! My name is Nina and I am a senior at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. I have had experience tutoring people of all ages in essay writing since my sophomore year of high school. I have been a head editor of my school's literary magazine. This job required me to check grammar, organization, and sentence structure of essays, poems, prose, and other forms of writing. In my high school and collegiate years, I have had experience tutoring individuals from ages 10-40 years old and have adapted to various learning styles. In college, I am a music therapy student with a minor in interfaith studies, which enables me to write different types of essays regularly. For the last three years, I have been a tutor for my university's writing center. This has allowed me to work with various students of different ages and backgrounds, along with helping people write essays from all subjects (science, math, english, history, etc.). I have skills in compassionate mentorship through my major and I love to bring this into my tutoring. My goal is to help people gain confidence in their writing skills and give them the independence to take into their future academics. As a college student, I have experience with scholarship and college essay writing, academic writing (research, rhetorical analysis, argumentative, biographical, clinical, etc.), and creative writing (fiction, poetry, fantasy, etc.). I hope to provide affordable tutoring for those who cannot always afford the high price it takes to further their writing skills. Since I am in college, I am still learning how to be the best tutor possible, therefore I often charge less than that of a professional price.
